TOMRA was founded in 1972 in Asker, Norway, on a machine for the return of empty beverage containers, and is still headquartered there. It moved into sensor-based food sorting by buying Odenberg and BEST Sorting, and its TOMRA Food business makes sorting and grading machines for potatoes, vegetables, fruit, nuts and other foods, from farm-level potato sorters to belt and free-fall sorters for processing lines.
