How a form-fill-seal machine works
A form-fill-seal machine turns a flat roll of packaging film into bags, fills each bag with a measured amount of product and seals it shut, all in one continuous cycle. The bag of chips, namkeen or milk powder you buy in a shop was most likely made this way. Vertical machines (VFFS) like the ones on this page are the most common type for snacks, powders and granules.
Step 1: Film unwinds
A roll of printed film feeds into the machine and is pulled down at a steady pace.
Step 2: Bag is formed
The film wraps around a forming tube and its edges are sealed into a tube.
Step 3: Product drops in
A weigher or filler above releases one measured portion down the tube.
Step 4: Sealed and cut
Horizontal jaws seal the bag closed and a knife cuts it free.
